Item is a 180-page typescript of an Eskimo-French dictionary written by Arthur Thibert in 1932. An accompanying note written by Mary M. Parsons reads as follows: "While stationed at Eskimo Point N.W.T. where my husband was the O/C the R.C.M.P. detachment, I was requested by the priests of the Catholic mission to type a copy of this dictionary. I would believe this book to be one of the copies I made at that time. Arthur Thibert whose name the manuscript bears, was a priest of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and was, in fact, the priest who performed our marriage so I got to know him well. My part was done during the winter of 1941-42. [signed] Mary M. Parsons."

These manuscripts were written by Dr. Barclay McKone, M.D., and are in typescript format. The first manuscript with the title "Moose Factory Indian Hospital" describes, in addition to a brief historical and geographical background of Moose Factory and its service area, salient treatments used to fight tuberculosis, and the frequent successes. The record comes alive with frequent records of specific cases. A review of cases indicated different characteristics of the disease and its treatment between "Indian" and Inuit patients. This report also refers to the treatment of other diseases and cases handled by the hospital between 1951 and 1955. The second manuscript with the title "Eastern Arctic Medical and X-Ray Survey 1955" describes in more complete diary-like detail the considerable amount of work done by group #2 of a 3 group expedition in their attempt to grapple with all the medical problems of the eastern Arctic. Again a primary concern is to identify and arrange to treat patients with tuberculosis. The time frame is June to September 1955.

Materials added in 2015:

Two DVDs of film footage taken by Dr. Barclay McKone between 1951 and 1955 while he was working as a physician in the James Bay region. Also included are typed notes by Dr. McKone which provide information about the content of the films. The film footage was originally in VHS format and was copied to DVD prior to being donated by Dr. Barclay's great niece Christine Fischer Guy. Ms. Guy received the original VHS tapes from Dr. McKone to help in the research of her novel, The Umbrella Mender, which was published in 2014 and is set in Moose Factory. The DVDs and notes were donated from the estate of Dr. Barclay McKone in 2015 via Christine Fischer Guy. Restriction: Permission to publish from this material is required from Christine Fischer Guy.

This addition to the fonds consists of a pen and ink drawing of Conger House and hill, north of George Street in Smith Township, by Edward C. Caddy. The cardboard backing from the original frame has information regarding the sketch and donor.

Item is a survey dated 1 January 1966 of males employed at Frobisher Bay. The organization that conducted the survey is not identified.

This fonds consists of three certificates: the first, dated October 19, 1948 appoints the Hon. Harold Robinson Scott as Minister of Lands and Forests for Ontario; the second, dated May 4, 1949 confirms that appointment; and the third, dated May 4, 1949 appoints him as a member of the Executive Council of the province of Ontario.

These documents consist of two stapled mimeographed books. The first, dated March 1946 and entitled "The Union of Saskatchewan Indians: The Record of the Establishment of Indian Unity in Saskatchewan" records the minutes of meetings held in Regina, Duck Lake and Saskatoon, and provides names of the Constitution Committee. It also contains reprints of Treaties No.3 and 4. The second book, dated July 1946 and entitled "The Treaties Between Her Majesty, Queen Victoria and The Indians of British North America" contains reprints of Treaties No. 3,4,5,6,7, and 8.

This item is a journal of events kept by the Post Manager at Eastmain, Outfit 260, James Bay District of the Hudson's Bay Company. His instructions were to record weather conditions, temperatures, activities of Inuit and Native fur trade, animal and bird migration patterns, supply ship and passenger activity, mail arrivals and news of Revillon Freres at an adjoining post. File contains records relating to material relating to work done by the Indian-Eskimo Association of Canada with Indigenous Peoples in the North. records include correspondence from Dr. Sutherland, on behalf of the IEA looking to acquire a Cessna 180 plane for use in the Northwest Territories and Yukon. Also contained are educational pamphlets for the IEA, a May 1962 newsletter of the IEA, and an editorial by Eleanor Sutherland, titled "A New Approach for Native People in Canada's North."

File contains records pertaining to the career of James Armstrong, member of the RCMP, while stationed at Alexandria Fjord, Ellesmere Island, Northwest Territories (now Nunavut) between 1958 and 1961. Included are two items created in 2015: one compact disc of 14 audio mp3 files titled “Alexander Fjord” (containing recollections of James Armstrong); and, one flash drive of copies of images taken from 1433 slides of Alexander Fjord (included are images of nine Inuit families of Alexander Fjord that were under the supervision of Armstrong; images of Armstrong himself; northern airplanes; northern scenery, etc.)

Consists of records relating to, and collected as part of Project North: The Interchurch Project on Northern Development. Includes material from the Northern Native Rights Campaign, the Project North newsletter, Project North Journal, and other materials.

This fonds consists of fur trading licences issued to traders by the North West Company.

This collection consists of a copy of the pamphlet "Deed of Settlement of Pugets Sound Agricultural Society" [printed in 1912], a photocopy of pages of an article with the title "Exile in the Wilderness" by Jean Murray Cole, University of Washington Press, 1979, which refers to this Society, and a letter dated January 6, 1994 from Anne Morton to Hugh Anson-Cartwright with enclosures which establish the date of printing of the pamphlet as approximately 1912.

This fonds consists of a summer journal written by Shirley Quan who spent a summer at Baker Lake in the Northwest Territories as a volunteer. A copy of her Pressed Arctic Flower project is included.

This collection consists of original and duplicate photographs of Lake Temagami, Camp Wanapitei, Camp Keewaydin, Camp Temagami and Lady Evelyn Lake.

This fonds consists of two binders enclosing the typescript of a narrative called "Rivers of Ice, the Voyage of Captain George Tyson." When the safety of the ship is threatened by being crushed in the ice, a contingent take refuge on a large ice floe. The narrative follows their vicissitudes and ultimate rescue.
