    Custodial history

Fonds was in the custody of Kathryn Tanswell before being donated to Trent University Archives in 2014. This material was collected over four generations by women of the families. Prior to 1979, many of the records were in the possession of Ruth Bellamy, Kathryn Tanswell’s mother. Upon Ruth’s death, the materials were passed to Kathryn and she added to them in turn from that time forward. Note: a more detailed custodial history is located in the donor file.

    Arrangement

Many of the documents in this fonds were received in tied bundles with handwritten notes attached describing the items inside; the bundles and the accompanying notes were created by the donor, Kathryn Tanswell (nee Bellamy), a family member with knowledge of the names represented in the documents. The notes are helpful in explaining associations and relationships between family and friends and have facilitated creation of the finding aid. The items in bundles and the accompanying notes have been transferred to folders; letters have been unfolded and arranged chronologically.
