This item is a pencil sketch of Young's Point. On the paper backing of the frame which has been removed the following is written: "Young's Point - Edward Roper c 1882? from his sketchbook, donated by Gordon Roper. Young's Point (north of Peterborough) from Edward Roper's sketch book, 1882, bought through Michael Bell". There is some speculation as to whether the name Edward Roper should have been Edward Caddy.

This photograph shows William Brownscombe at his potters wheel shaping a large stone jug with a narrow neck. Another jug stands on a shelf to his left.

This item is a pencil sketch of the Otonabee River and the District of Newcastle where the village of Peterborough was located. The sketch was produced by "K.E.S."

This fonds consists of a "School Exercise Book" which contains a handwritten biographical sketch of Miss Burgess' "First School", undoubtedly written to be read to the members of the Shakespeare Club at one of their monthly meetings. The 31 loose sheets consist of poems and verse written by Burgess over the years as inspiration or occasion presented.

Cassettes contain a 1982 audio from Trent University Music Society's production of Gilbert & Sullivan's operetta "The Pirates of Penzance". One cassette contains Act 1, the other contains Act 2.

This fonds consists of Town & Gown Concerts programmes, correspondence, minutes, newspaper clippings, press releases, and financial statements, 1969-1979. Also included are miscellaneous programmes of Trent University Performing Arts Series, Trent Music Hall Society, Theatre Trent, Peterborough Festival of the Arts, Community Concert Association, and Peterborough Symphony Orchestra, 1970-1987.

This item is a booklet published by Hutchison House Museum, Peterborough, containing The Old Doctor written by Catharine Parr Traill and introduced by Jean Murray Cole. "The Old Doctor" (1985) was probably written between 1835 and 1840 when John Hutchison, a native of Kirkcaldy, Scotland, was practising medicine in Peterborough, Upper Canada.

Item is a brochure for the Spark Photo Festival, a celebration of photography in Peterborough, Ontario.

This fonds consists of two watercolours with one identified as Hastings, Ontario, and and the other identified as Forest City. Also included in the fonds are two pencil sketches and a photograph of another sketch. One sketch of two farms and a river with a steamboat on it, but otherwise unidentified. The other sketch is of the Anderson house, the Ashfield house, Mr. Harry Fowld's house and the Wanamaker's house, all in Hastings, Ontario. The photographic reproduction is of a sketch entitled Hastings on the Trent, Ontario. The watercolours and sketches were created by Rev. Michael A. Farrar.

This fonds consists of 59 photographs and 16 tintypes, (mostly unidentified), and one scrapbook with a number of original artwork pieces including two paintings on leave.

Treasurer's book listing receipts, expenditures, statements of exchange, ticket sales, concert statements, recapitulation statements, and annual statements for the Peterborough Male Voice Choir between 1920 and 1939. Most statements are written directly into the book, while some are typed and glued in or inserted. Statements for concerts indicate performances at Port Hope, Coburg, Peterborough, Lakefield, and Fenelon Falls, as well as a broadcasted concert that was held on May 19, 1926. Also included are statements relating to the Ontario Music Festival Fund. Some additional items are inserted inside the front cover of the book, such as a copy of a paid loan from the Canadian Bank of Commerce from 1929 and the on-board menu for a May 26, 1929 dinner on the return trip of the choir from New York via the Lehigh Valley Railroad.

This fonds consists of photocopies of addresses given by Martha Ann Kidd, local historian, sometime Chair of the Old Buildings Committee of the Peterborough Historical Society and member of the Peterborough Historical Society. It includes addresses on 1) The Quetico Foundation - Quetico by Car, CBC, 1956; 2) First Draft - The Heart of Old Peterborough, June 1971; 3) Second Draft - The Heart of Old Peterborough, October 1971: 4) Final - Peterborough Historical Society, The Heart of Old Peterborough, or, Old Buildings Lecture; and 5) The Heart of Old Peterborough, given to the Architectural Conservancy, October 26 1972.

This accession consists of three letters, one dated January 27, 1981, one April 6, 1982, written by Margaret Laurence to Mary E. Hamilton, a college acquaintance, and one dated September 8, 1986. In the first, which is a photocopy, Laurence expresses her delight in the book "And Some Brought Flowers...", a copy of which Hamilton must have sent to her. She praises the illustrations and the text and suggests that her delight be passed on to Mary Alice Downie and E.J. Revell, co-authors of the book. In the second letter, which is an original, Laurence graciously acknowledges Hamilton's use of a quote in publicizing the "Flower" book. She also comments on the possibility of being nominated for the Nobel prize, asserting that her body of work is much too slim. An additional letter from Laurence dated September 1986 and addressed to Elizabeth Ritchie was forwarded to Trent University Archives in 1999 by the Canadian High Commission in London, England. The letter had been found inside a book and concerns Laurence's prognosis of cancer and her desire to complete her memoirs.

This fonds consists of 8 original pencil drawings, signed M. Smithson. The drawings are of fruits, Roman and castle ruins as well as pastoral scenes.

This collection of photographs consists of 2 tintypes (one woman is identified as Mrs E.R. Young; 2 photographs of lumbering operations at Lake of Bays including a photograph of an alligator machine; one ambrotype of a young boy and 1 daguerreotype of two adults with a child.

This item is a scrapbook containing Victorian magazine clippings, newspaper clippings, receipts from a trip to Europe in 1885, clippings regarding John Miller's student days at Queen's University from 1882 to 1886, concert and theatre programs from Lindsay, Kingston, Peterborough (including ventriloquist and mind reading events), London, England theatre programs and newspaper clippings regarding a murder trial heard in Woodstock, Ontario, 1890.

This fonds consists of copies of papers written by J.E.R. and H.V. Collection consists of three personal notes written by Catharine Parr Traill to her grand-niece, Agnes Le Fenore. One is a two part card with the cover illustrated with cutout images of a dog and a butterfly along with a wisp of moss glued to the surface. The second part of the card is a warm salutation to Agnes and her family. The date is 24 December 1897. The second item, dated 12 May, is a note of thanks to Agnes for obtaining a cape [and cap?] for her, and also refers to fatigue and the problem of swelling feet. The third item is a letter written 1 April 1899 to "G Niece A F" [Agnes] sending belated sympathy for two in hospital and describing in some detail Traill's own plight, and the care offered by Kate and Katie.

This fonds consists of a series of programmes from dramatic productions performed at Hart House Theatre, University of Toronto, between 1919 and 1935. Some of the programmes are autographed by the players.

This fonds consists of two Christmas greeting cards sent to the Ropers by Ned and Vi Pratt. The card dated 1953 called "Night" with woodcut illustration by their daughter, Claire Pratt, contains a simple seasonal greeting. The other card, undated, contains a poem called "Magic in Everything", and is embellished with pen and ink decorations by Claire Pratt. Both cards are enclosed in a Trinity College envelope. Also included are three paper fragments: a typewritten one presumably quoting an aphorism by Pratt; a handwritten note referring to pages 380 and 396 in the volume Collected Poems in Roper's handwriting; and another reference to page 230.

This fonds consists of three letters between Gene Kelly, Steve Otto and James Rothenburg discussing a possible connection between Kelly and the Sheehy Family of the former "Sheehy" house, which became part of Peter Robinson College, on George St. N., Peterborough, Ontario.

This fonds consists of letters from F.A. Verner to C.J. Townsend relating to the disposition of his pictures and paintings. From the appearances in these papers, Verner's most-oft-painted subject was the Canadian bison.
