The Society of Camp Directors was founded May 21, 1969, after a long gestation period, from about 1957, when the subject was first broached in the Ontario Camping Association. Members of the OCA who were camp directors were instrumental in the formation of the new society.
Custodial history
Fonds was in the custody of Bruce Hodgins, Peter Gilbert, and Catherine Ross before being donated to Trent University.
Scope and content
Fonds includes several SCD Writing Awards submissions and copies of papers presented at SCD meetings. Also included are binders of correspondence, minutes of meetings, brochures and pamphlets, etc. related to the SCD.

Several SCD Writing Awards essay submissions. These essays are dated approximately 1992-1993 and 2005-2011. Also included is a copy of a Trent University Masters thesis by Maggie Embury, 2009, entitled "Rediscovering and Re-Imagining Indigenous Environmental Education Outdoors"
