Biographical history
Captain John C. Boylen was paymaster and assistant adjutant of the 127th Battalion, Queen's York Rangers during the World War I. He compiled a war diary from the weekly reports of Headquarters Officers and O.C. Companies. Boylen also wrote news articles on the York Rangers. He was, at one time, secretary for the Ontario Historical Society and Mayor. He was the author of several books including Castle Frank, 1956, and York Township: a historical summary, 1954.
Custodial history
This fonds was created by Captain John C. Boylen and owned by the Honourable Leslie M. Frost who donated it to the Trent University Archives.
Scope and content
This fonds consists of seven scrapbooks of newspaper clippings relating to the history of the 127th Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Forces (Queen's York Rangers) which were compiled by Captain J.C. Boylen.

Physical condition
Some of the items in the scrapbooks are loose. Also, the bindings are very fragile. Handle with care.

The scrapbooks were originally part of the Leslie M. Frost fonds, but were removed and accessioned separately due to the access restrictions placed on the personal and political papers in the Leslie M. Frost fonds.
