This collection is comprised of disparate documents collected by Professor David Macmillan. The scope of the papers is primarily North America, 1680 to 1918.
Macmillan, David StirlingThis fonds consists of miscellaneous documents including Alexander Edmison's diary, a typescript of "Alex's Day", photographs, etc.
Edmison, AlexThis fonds consists of materials relating to Gilbert and Sullivan productions, the Coventry Singers of Peterborough, and the Town and Gown concerts of Peterborough. Also included are materials related to the Progressive Conservatives, the New Democratic Party, the 1975 election, and Peterborough voting patterns.
Wearing, JosephThis fonds is a small collection of historical information on the people, places, mills, organizations in Cavan Township and the Village of Millbrook. Included are reminiscences from pioneer descendants, essays on the Cavan Blazers (an Orange vigilante group), early mills, prominent pioneer citizens and local legends.
Millbrook and Cavan TownshipThis addition to the fonds consists of interviews with prominent NDP and labour activists recalling the 1960 by-election in Peterborough, and the early history of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) and the New Democratic Party (NDP) in the riding. As well there are related transcripts; newspaper articles and correspondence.
New Democratic PartyThis fonds consists of three papers written by Peter Adams (one with B.F. Findlay and B.E. Goodison) concerning snow. It also includes his speech notes for a Peterborough Social Planning Council meeting, and two annual reports written in his capacity as M.P.P.
Adams, William PeterFonds consists of records documenting the administrative and social activities of the Peterborough District Labour Council, with particular emphasis between 1990 and 2003. Canadian, provincial, and local labour histories are well-documented. Records include correspondence between PDLC executives and other labour leaders; published (e.g., books) and unpublished (e.g., grey literature) material relating to labour rights, legislation, and union activities; photographs of community events and partnerships in Peterborough; and ephemera, such as posters and brochures.
Administrative records include correspondence, by-laws, agendas and minutes of meetings, motions and resolutions, reports, financial statements, membership forms, and directories. Of note are PDLC minutes between 1974-2013 (incomplete) and correspondence relating to activism and outreach. Some PDLC newsletters are included amongst administrative records, where they were part of the original order.
Published material includes books, periodicals, and reports relating to labour history, social issues, and legislation. Published material also includes the PDLC newsletter (1975-1996), copies of Labour Review (1970-2009), and copies of the Trades and Labour Congress journal (1954-1955).
Unpublished material includes research papers, submissions to provincial and federal government, presentations, collective agreements, and manuals.
Photographs and other media include records relating to annual Day of Mourning events, Canada Day, Labour Day, fundraising initiatives, local partnerships, and material intended for publication in Labour Review magazine.
This fonds is organized into six series: (1) Administrative records; (2) Newsletter collection; (3) Magazine and journal collection; (4) Canadian Labour Congress constitutional conventions; (5) Photographs, sound recordings, and video recordings; and (6) Pamphlet collection.
This fonds is comprised of typescripts of newspaper articles from the Peterborough Weekly Despatch, the Peterborough Review and the Peterborough Examiner. The articles have been arranged chronologically under a number of subject headings by the donor.
Fonds consists of original Assessment books, Collectors' Rolls, Minute Books, Voters' Lists, By-laws and township business correspondence for the Township of Asphodel and the Village of Norwood, County of Peterborough.
