Series consists of various files relating to General Electric Canada, its Peterborough plant, and its health and safety conditions. A chronology of health and safety issues and collection of press clippings and obituaries of GE workers is located at the beginning of the series. Other records include minutes of the health and safety committee, incident reports, reports and assessments of conditions, correspondence, notes, training materials, memos and correspondence from GE, resource materials gathered from various sources, and other materials. Records also document efforts of the UE health and safety committee and other union activities.

The series begins with general files relating to health and safety at CGE Peterborough, followed by files on specific issues, in alphabetical order.
Items have not been rearranged within or between folders, but folders have been organized to aid the researcher. Researchers should note that some files contain a wide range of material, including records not well represented by the file title. Many files are titled according to an issue or hazardous substance, but may also contain more general records, such as health and safety minutes, blank forms, and records related to other issues/materials.

Material relating to General Electric will be found in other series in this fonds. In particular, series 4 contains advocacy files that often include photocopies and original records from earlier years in the Peterborough CGE plant, many similar to those found in this series. Records containing personal information were removed to a separate file, placed in series 6, and restricted. Instances where this has occurred is noted at the file level, and associated files in series 6 are labelled by their file of origin.
